Step 12: Configuring Firefox for NTLM Automatic authentication
It is very easy to configure Mozilla Firefox to use NTLM (NT LAN Management) automatic authentication, so the browser won’t repeatedly challenge users for the password within the organization’s network. Here’s how it’s done:
- Launch the Firefox web browser.
- In the web address field, type in
about:configand press the Enter key:

- You’ll get a warning that “This might void your warranty!” To get past the warning, simply click on the button that says, “I’ll be careful, I promise!” -

- On the next screen, in the Filter: field at the top, type in “ntlm” which triggers displays of a list preference names: select the one for
network.automatic-ntlm-auth.trusted-uris:

- Double click on
network.automatic-ntlm-auth.trusted-uris, which triggers the Enter string value dialog window. Type in your SharePoint site domain (in this example,.tfplocal.net), being sure to precede the domain name with a dot; click OK.

- Now you can see that the value for that preference name, in this example, has changed to “.tfplocal.net” –

- Be sure to verify this new setting by browsing to your SharePoint site and checking to see whether it prompts for any login information. Having made the foregoing changes to Firefox, it should not.
